Wow, there is SO much to see in Italy. I would suggest narrowing it down to a few cities if you can unless you have a really long time in order to see more. I spent a week in Italy last September and saw some of the major cities Rome, Florence, Pisa, Venice and Milan. I would definitely try to see Rome, Florence and Venice because they have so much to offer tourists including art, history, architecture, Italian culture, food and more. Milan is the business and fashion capital of Italy and has a little bit less to offer tourists but is still fascinating nonetheless. All of the Italian cities I visited were beautiful in their own way, Florence happened to be my favorite!
