Aww..hehe. I wouldn't worry about this too much! A lot of people view animals in much the same way as they do humanbeings (me being one of those people). To me animals just speak a different langauge, but they can be just as affectionate, cute, friendly, etc, as a humanbeing can (often even more so)! Sounds like your partner has a lot of respect for animals...I admire that.

My mom was never much of an animal lover but toward the end of her life, she became very attached to a little striped cat called Cassidy. She had alzheimer's and could no longer remember even her children's names. I came into a room one day and found her talking to her cat and mas amazed to hear that she knew Cassidy's name even though she'd forgotten mine.
As long as your partner still knows who you are, you probably don't have anything to worry about.

There are ways to tell if she is delusional, does she suffer from hallucinations? Does she talk to inanimate objects? Does she do weird things out of the blue? It is not exactly very accurate to determine one's sanity simply by whether he or she converses with a pet.Besides, what's wrong with a little bit of owner/pet fun? You can, however try to reach out to her, try to get her interest i.e. ask about the kitteh =)

It's good if I helped =). If it is true that she is a little unwell mentally I suggest you seek professional help for her. Like most other diseases, schizophrenia is easier to treat in its earlier stages. Early treatment also reduces the chances of her endangering herself or anyone else.
