As an Eagle Scout and Scoutmaster in the Boy Scouts I think it is time for the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) to drop their ban on Gays (and agnostics too for that matter) for membership. This disasterous decision on the BSA's part has hindered our ability to get our message out to the public because we are seen as a discrimationay group that does not follow it's own guidelines. I believe in the program and challange anyone here to show me a group that nationwide does more for this country and the world itself short of the Red Cross. Showing the youth of america there is more in your community and this land of ours serves to only improve our country and the world we live in. From a better appreciation for nature and the outdoors to learning and experiencing things they never would on their own all while becoming better citizens is what the BSA is all about, remove the obstacles that many short sighted people cannot see through and let us continue the legacy that Baden Powell started a century ago that is still revelant and still worthwhile.
So my point would be this...Lift the Ban and quit discriminating against this or any group. The program is solid and the more people we can work with the better we all will be. If everyone worked at being Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean and Reverent in their lives they will touch and improve the lives of everyone they come in contact with.

I don't think that letting gays in the boys scouts would lead them to teach the boy scouts to be gay. Maybe teaching tolerance and not to hate people because they are different.... I don't recall there being a merit badge for a class on "heterosexuality".... And why shouldn't there be male leaders for girl scouts?? There are women leaders for boy scouts. There is very strong guidelines for leaders and there must always be 2 leaders present at functions, including camping trips. The leaders sleep in their own tents. The only child that would be allowed to sleep in a leaders tent is that leaders own child. Showering is separated, even meetings must have 2 leaders present. This protects both the children and the adult. Being gay and molestation are two completely seperate issues.

Only Promoting the ideals expressed by the Scout Oath and Law. What besides bigotry and ignorance are you tring to promote? People who promote hatred usually in Gods name only serve to dis-honor their own beliefs. If your ignorance is not based on any twisted religious beliefs then try to be understanding of what you do not understand. I totally don't get people who allow their lives to be run by a book that has been edited and amended several times over to the point that the orginal and true meaning has been lost. I pity them and yet I do not call them evil and un-natural...

No its totally wrong to have gays in an organization like the ones you mentioned. For one thing gay people are not normal and should not be with people that are normal especially when they will be spending so much time with each other.

I applaud you. As I often say to people, "Can't be a Boy Scout if you're gay, but a serial killer can be a troop leader." I'll kindly remind people that Dennis Rader, the BTK serial killer was a Boy Scout Troop leader. Don't hear the nom-gay-loving BSA talking about that.

Who is it that makes the "final" decision on what the membership rules are to be? I agree that it is time for the BSA to join the modern world and be more inclusive and accepting. At the same time I do respect their right as a PRIVATE organization to set the rules for membership that they want. I think the reason these two issues are on their membership restrictions is that they ARE based on a belief in God and to many homosexuality goes against God and the Bible (not MY opinion, just what I believe is where their "rules" stem from). It would be nice to see such an organization open itself up to be more accepting. Especially since it is based on teaching our young boys values in life. Acceptance of others is a good value that needs to be taught.
