Blocking the rivers from getting into the sea.

whath could happen if we human beings can manage to stop the rivers from getting into the sea.

Now why would you want to do that..? Basically the sea will stay at it's level the rivers however will overflow and claim the land cause they have no where to go anymore then to take over the land and drown the people that are living there.
