It came to existence after the 2nd world war, to maintain world peace, stability,a order and define a decorum for the peaceful coexistence of mankind. Is it meeting these objectives in today's time ? It has been reduced to a hoarding of puppets, who don't have any power over the state of affairs today. The powerful nations are using it to pursue there own agenda on the pretext of some or other issues, and the less powerful are most of the time perplexed about what to do. The member states are busy oiling each other's toes to get more votes for there issues. And in the midst of all this, the basic purpose which marked it's birth i.e peace, prospertiy for all,act as a custodian of international law has been pushed to the backbench. What can be done to weasel out UN from it's present state of rotting existence and give it more meaning ??

In the 1980's Indira Ghandi went to the UN to deliver a speech and afterwards caught the matinee performance of Amadeus at the Broadhurst Theatre which at that time starred Frank Langella as Solari. I know because I was part of the hosting security detail. She believed in the UN which has a very difficult job to perform in this world with a a lot of political interference to wade through. You want to see it at work offer to volunteer for your nations representative. You will see what it really does world wide despite the political obstacles.

But the powerful nations never care about , what UN has to say.UN too gets the fund from these nations. It could have prevented the carnage, the dark future Iraq is looking at now.But it developed butterflies in the stomach, and stayed quiet.

It has completly lost it's way.As there is a change of guard taking place, with Mr Moon for South Korea taking over, let's hope tht it gets it's due, which is highly illogical now that the wealthy nations have once again started rallying around to get there fav postions. It looks like completely outdated, unless some sort of drastic change takes place
