How many calories should we eat a day? Anyone a nutritionist? I am trying to figure out how many calories I should eat per day.
If I am active should it be the regular 1200 or more? When I look it up on the internet I get so many different answers.
Anyone know how calorie in take works?

check out sparkspeople.com. It's a free site that will help you figure out how many you need to eat along with protein, carbs, etc. I know of a lot of people who love this site and use it daily

If you are active you could even take in more calories. In a class I attend for weight loss, the caloric intake can be even higher. I was amazed to see that some were doing a 2400 calorie plan and losing weight. It is all about metabolism and the combination of foods that you eat.

It depends on if you want to lose, gain, or maintain. I was always told to take your weight and multiply it by 15, if you are a woman, and this is about what it would take the average woman to maintain her current weight. Of course that may have changed over the years, but it is a rough extimate. No,I am not a nutritionist, but I am fairly well read. My hubby had to take nutrition for a nursing prerequesite, and I study everything with him. That is the number I gauge my intake by.

it depends if you want to loose weight or maintain you weight as is
the recomended amount is 2000 for a woman
to loose weight a calorie defacit of 500
so 1500 a day
but alot of it would depend on how you are now your size age weight if you allready have good muscle mass
you burn more calories with muscle
the best way is to note how meany you eat now and take 500 away from that
then check again in a couple of weeks and change again if needed

Generally for some one average and who is fit - not a couch potato - 2000 can do - if you need to loose weight or dont do much exercice 1000-1500 should do.
