Testimonials for online business opportunities...are they genuine?

I have been looking on the internet for work from home opportunities or a way to make money and I've seen a few programs and systems and a lot of them have testimonials from people who have supposed tried their program or system and have had great successes from them. I was wondering just how genuine these testimonials are. Has anyone else out there wondered that?
