I don't think they should banned cell phones while driving if they do that they need to banned everything while driving like putting on make up, eating, changing the radio station, talking.... see that is just stupid !!!

Talking on a handheld mobile/cell phone while driving is illegal in all states of Australia, and that is how it should be too. The penalty if caught is a fine as well as licence demerit points. The only thing I can think of that is more dangerous than a driver holding a mobile/cell phone to their ear is someone who turns their head around to the back seat while driving.
In my opinion, the law should apply everywhere and I am sure that the main offenders are the younger drivers as well as some businessmen/women. I might be wrong, but that is my observation of what happens here in Australia anyway. These people who think they cannot live without their mobile/cell phone are lucky to be born during these times, as mobile phones have only been available here in Australia for the last 20 years. In fact the original was something like carrying around a house brick, as they were rather large and heavy.
Anyone who thinks it is not a good law, and that it is okay to talk on a handheld mobile phone while driving, should not have a drivers licence.

I think they should. They should have hands free cell phones or places on the side of the road where the drivers can pull over and yap away. There is no need to drive and cell phone at the same time. I also think that they should also do it in Canada where I live. I know there are some provinces here that you cannot drive and be talking on the cell phone and others where you are allowed to go and kill yourself or run into someone else and cause an accident.
Make the roads safe for all of us.

I believe that most states have some version of this ban, But most cell phones come with the speaker function built in so you dont need to hold your phone. I keep a phone holder in my car and use the speaker function 99 percent of the time.
I agree that there are far too many idiots on the road more conerned about their phone than the road. I just saw a guy the other day zip by me on the phone and not paying attention, a little ways up the road he landed his car on it's side.
Glad that the accident didn't hurt anyone else and thought HA HA

Yea i think they should...me myself has experienced it so many times. Your attention just goes away sometimes. Some people think bluetooth headsets are a good solution. They do help but i think its not the cell phones in da hand dats the main problem...its the ppl losin concentration...so headset or cell phone they shud both be banned

Yes I think it should be against the law in all states to drive and hold a cell phone. I do occassionally do that and so I do know that it makes driving more difficult and add extra danger to the road. And actually the only traffic accident I have ever been in was caused by a woman who was talking on a cell phone!

Idea of enacting the law banning cell phone usage while driving will be of great help in curbing the road accidents. It ensures the safety of drivers as well as pedestrians to a certain extent.
