in the philippines pirated cd's and dvd's are everywhere.abut two years ago there was a phony attemt to eradicate piracy and the government had managed to destroy maybe a couple hundred thousands of cd's but that's really a small amount. piracy is sorampant here i wonder how the music and film industry survives. about a week ago my boyfriend and i saw a movie and the trailer of this new flick "eragon" was shown. so we decided we'd see it next. then when i saw at the mall that they're showing "eragon" now, i told my boyfriend about it and he said he's already seen it, because his sister bought a dvd. that's how fast the manufacturers of these pirated dvd's are.

If you are talking pirated movies.. then I think there is an effort by the movie and CD makers to release movies in theatres, on the internet and their DVDs on the same days. That way everyone has access to movies at the same time. If they keep the prices nominal then everyone will watch it first hand rather than stick to piracy. Regarding software, these attempts of putting a curb are all temporary. If you look at the statistics you will see that most of the softwares that are pirated are microsoft created. And microsoft doesnot do much about it because they are making people dependent in microsoft environment and its development tools so eventually once a person has learnt the technology when he goes professional or enterprise he will have to go legal and that is where microsoft makes money.

well that was very useful information. i agree that the prices of original vcd's and dvd's are high, but there was a time when that was okay. people bought originals and i remember, back then, it would be totally embarrasing if your friend opens up your discman (the ipod was yet to be invented) and sees you've got a pirated cd. now these are widely acceptable, and having an original here would be associated with being rich. for the average people like us, if one has an original cd others would be like "wow, rich kid!"

Yah, in my country (Bulgaria) pirate software is everywhere. The government is trying to do something but unsuccessful. Prices of software, music and movies are really unreasonable.

that's exactly the reason why many people choose to purchase pirated cd's--they feel that originals are too expensive. but when you think about it, people long ago bought originals and learned to complain about the price only when we found out about the cheaper alternative. and also, the prices go high because piracy is killing the industry.

It (piracy) has been rampant in our country. Everything right from movies, softwares, operating systems, etc., everything has been pirated out here. There has been a parallel industry running along with the genuine ones here. I guess the pirated industry here would be more worth than the genuine ones here. Most of them here prefer pirated ones only because of its cost rather than the quality. But ultimately they will end up paying more because of the damages it causes to their pc or players, which they don't realize.

I live in Brazil, more specifically in Sao Paulo, the strongest (economically speaking) city of the country. Here we have people selling pirated software on CDs and DVDs all the day, in many places, even near police departments. This is something done every day from monday to saturday, 8:00 am until 5:00 pm. And there are many, many sellers, they sell it near the police!!! Piracy here is seen as something that people should do and be proud of it (I am ashamed of it).

In my country (Ukraine) piracy is very popular. But the percent of pirated software and audio/video materials has dropped significantly since 90-ies. But it is still not hard to get a pirated copy Windows XP or a new flick.

it's a good thing piracy has been lessened there. here the piracy industry (yes we can now call it an industry) is continually growing. now, i am postive everybody has pirated albums, movies, or software. even play station cd's. when i was younger our country was known for making lots of imitation apparel, and now this.

I am also living here in the Philippines, but I am at the southern part. Piracy is really rampant here in our area because policemen never arrest vendors. What's worse is, the police headquarters is only meters away from the piracy stalls.

These pirated cd must be decimated and those people who behind this job should be in prison. My last buy of pirated since 2005 but i notice some of the front cover is good but when you play in dvd or vcd player its different episode. What an ashame! these must be stop! or else many innocent people who trust the selling of pirated are good (in a cheapest price) but they dont know they already cheatted.
