the rules are in its place but the will power to follow them must come from the society itself

I think Indians are pathetic in following rules. They don't care about public property at all. No wonder the streets are sometimes so dirty. And forget the traffic rules. Most of the people don't even drive in their own lanes.

I agree with you soumodeep. Indians need to be educated by lathi to learn, most of us probably fall, into the category of "laaton ke bhoot baaton se nahin mante".

i dont think so.if it has been laid firmly then sure all will follow. If they are in s'pore they are following the rules of that country and similarly in US or UK.so it is not the mentality of indians to break the rules.Only the ofiicials who are enforcing should be strict and should not be shaken by any means.

one thing that is also bad... that people hesitate to help the injured people in accident... they don't take initiative to call ambulance or police....
in france it is a crime if u don't help anyone injured in accident

i dont know about the people of other countries but yes i feel indians
are bad at following rules.
as of me i try maximum to follow
all the rules and i wish everyone
will do it.
i really want to see a disciplined
way of life, people following all
the rules,
no betraying, no crime.
a country free of all the evil
things- this is what i want
INDIA to be.

Iam somewhat frustrated by the "explanations" offered for the country's economic and social problems. One of the standard arguments is that corruption was the cause of all problems.it seemed like we can become rich by being good.obviously this coincidence was quite nice but also somewhat suspicious.I've been surprised by how little progress we have made by following rules. The biggest trend I see today is that people are intrested in talking about corruption but this is not the same as saying that people are more intrested in "reducing" corruption.I think there is quite a lot of evidence that says that they are not.but people are certainly intrested about telling others how worried they are about the rules not being followed and corruption being advocated.it's a bit like jewelery:it makes people feel distinguished

I agree with it. In meerut or pune or gwalior or kanpur or lucknow or any other place wherever I have stayed I have seen the same thing. In meerut I asked a traffic poilce man that if there is a cut in betwen to take a u turn on a particulare road. He pointed to the broken road breaker that oh you go from here, I said but its against rules he told me oh its okay everyone is doing it. this was right before the main traffic beat on begum bridge. This particular junction is a very busy one. 5 roads meet here out of which four are two way. it has got five traffic constables monitoring the traffic and main police beat is also there on a side, but still people jump red lights and don't wear helmet and infact traffic constable was himself not aware that if its compulsory to wear them or not. he he . welcome to India

i agree with u ..... but don't u think that the follower also suffer due to the mistakes commited by non followers.
an accident may happen due to a non follower but a follower may also die in it

I don't think that Indians are bad in following rules it is just the rules are not enforced also they feel that it is cool not to follow rules. I think it about how they are trained. I am trained on seat belt so last time I was in India I refused to sit in a car which didn't have a carseat because I didn't want to risk my life.
If a cop would not accept a Rs. 100 bribe for breaking the traffic rules we won't break them.

india is a free country now and enforcing the rules is in the hands of indians only.... so ultimately citizen of india are responsible for the mess they have created

Hi vaibhav,
This is jen and though i don't drive i know that it's become very dangerous to drive these days without helmets or seat belts specially when with kids or parents for their life is at risk but not everyone share the same opinion.
Aand also there are very small villages and outskirts in india where kids learn to ride or drive without the safety equipments so it become's a habit and they do not understand the risk! With the help or government and maybe police new rules can be made that will make people follow road signals, traffic rules and decrease accidents.

i think yes we are bad in following the rules but for making this good we have to have good system support and thats what where india is a inch behind from other countries we are, in south asia, with all other south asian countries are not good in ratio of population and demands of population
