I am FLOORED right now....my son just called me from school to tell me there was a bomb threat at his and his sisters middle/high school and I have to honestly say I am SO SHOCKED! Not only because back in Canada in the area we lived in this is unheard of but also because they school they go to is in a town of maybe 6000 ppl its not like its big city or anything ya know.....I'm...I'm speechless is what I flippin am!!
Maybe I'm over-reacting but this is a totally new experience for me (plus the thought of losing my two remaining kids is terrifying) and my son said he's freaked out and wants to come home but my daughter has already gone back to her class so the secretary got on the phone with me and asked what I wanted her to do and I was like...oh no I want them home..so my kids are on their way back for the day..My poor son is SO freaked out...Like I said back in Canada in the area where we were this was unheard of...so ya he's tripping out..
Has anyone else had to deal with this...how did it make you feel? how did you handle the kids and their reactions etc?

thats just it eh...I've already lost one child and any suggestion of the even most remote possiblity that I could lose one or both of the others sets me into a right tizzy! Completely illogical I know but also for me unavoidable LOL believe me its nervewrecking when your mind functions like that LOL

Calm down! Bomb Threats used to happen all the time when I was in school and I lived in a town of only 15,000! It's usually just other kids pranking the school so that they can get out early or something. Most of the time it's nothing to worry about but the schools always take the necessary steps to search the school just in case.

Discussions like these alwayshit me real hard and a knot forms in my stomach. When we were in school it was maximum a threat of fire in the school and we were all rushed to the grounds to help us evacuate if it spread. Now what is this world coming too. I guess it must be really scary to live under such circumstances and I hate those terrorists , murderers themselves to put our world in such situation. These people it seems are holding us at ransom. I know it must be a trick but its really scary and you cant even take chances with such rumors also.

Kids used to do this at my school hoping that they would get an extension to study for exams, the school never closed and in fact suspended people for 20 days. That's really all I ever had to deal with the main difference for me being that I didn't hear of the threats until the people got suspended and blabbed.

Bomb threats are serious concern. These bomb hoaxes are equally dangerous like actual bomb blasts. With hoaxes coming on continuously, it will at some time make the authorities less careful and in case of some real incidence, it may get impacted badly.
People doing such things have several reasons for it. Some like threatening others, Some find it enjoyable, Some feel the satisfaction of fooling the authorities, and several such reasons. Its strange to notice that only gang criminals are not responsible for these, even group of mischiefious people or naughty kids end up doing these things. Actually films and the popularity of bad boy image are deeply influencing people and specially kids to indulge in such activities.
In our country, hoaxing is considered as a serious crime and has severe punishment attached to it. I think authorities should be really very concert in this respect and take tough steps to stop such things.

I am more shocked at your being shocked really...I think every school is bound to get a bomb threat a time or two...usually as a prank from a student wishing to miss some classes...these days however are not the Leave It to Beaver days and kid could get in more serious trouble and not be considered a scamp or playful after doing such a thing...geez terrorist had to go and ruin all the fun

They've had bomb threats here in our school system and theres appx 7000 people living here. They've usually been just pranks kids were playing to get out of school early. The last time it happen I think they checked the school and sent them back to school instead of letting them out.
I can understand why your freaked out though and why your son was too. It a horrible thought that someone would do that and you never want to "assume" its jusr a prank cause the one time you do it might not be. Thank goo so far here its just been pranks.
Our local hays grocery store has had to be cleared because of a bomb threat prank. Peronsally don't see where its funny and people better remmber if they get caught doing this they'll get in some serious trouble.

Yes this type of threat will be going to happen. But what we have think is that 99% of threats about bomb threat are hoaxes which is not going to happen.it must be the act of some crazy people or somebody to create panic situation and to mislead the police and govt. or for other intentions.so you should not have to be so much tensed and noone will ever put a bomb in a school. Its just to create panic. In my point of view you first have to stop telling about it over and over agian and its ur shock which get children tensed.they dont take it seriously until we people make the think large.so get it out of your mind and let the authorities to do the job.

I have never had to go through an experience such as this one. But I know that if my child was in school & had called me from there school & had told me that type of news.. I would be just as worried as you we're. For me receiving any type of news regarding a bomb threat or any type of threat in general can really make anyone panic. Especially when it comes to your own flesh & blood. The one you had brought in to this world.
I know that bomb threats are becoming more & more common these days though. I don't think anyone is prepared to hear that.. But I think more schools should try to come up with rules or go over a course of action with the children who go to school there.. So if that was to happen at least they'd know what to do.
Just luckly no one was hurt & nothing had ended up happening.

We had one last year at the local high school and I was freaked out even though my kids don't go there yet. I get upset when I hear about fights at school so bomb threats really set me off! Kids will probably be unsettled for some time when this type of thing happens

Oh dear bomb threats can be so frightening especially when our children attend that school, and I can understand you completedly as I would be feeling the same if my children were in that school. I have never had to deal with something like this and never would like too.
