pimple/acne treatment

i have a friend who's really having a hard time treating her pimples/acne. she's been to well-known facial salons in my country but, still, the problem persists. i know she should go to a dermatologist, but, she can't afford to do so. can anyone please post here your suggestions how to properly treat pimples/acne, and, proper methods to clean our skin? would really appreciate your suggestions..thanks in advance.
