This is an old debate but very pertinent. State which school of thought you belong to, and the reason behind your beleifs. I am capitalist. I wont go into how capitalism has improved the standard of living people of people or place any statistics in my argument. My argument is simple, capitalism is the only system where individual rights are not violated. It's the only system which rewards success.

Capitalism does not suck blood from the poor! It merely facilitates trade between two willing people without any interference from anybody(read government). And it allows the traders to reap benefits ,.which is only legitimate.

i perfectly agree. i don't know if people from the 1st world would agree with me (an individual from a 3rd world) but it's really evident in our country how capitalism sucks our country's wealth and resources. they would easily send out a part of their earnings for charity. what a show-off! while back in the factory and plantation, they treat workers as slaves. they even fund politicians in their campaign to win in our elections so they will be protected and use the law in their favor. lucky those people who live in developed countries, they reap the fruits of capitalism, but for us in 3rd world where capitalist get their cheap raw materials, cheap labor, big market for their surplus products, and their puppets from the government, spare us the selling. we won't buy the idea anymore. capitalism brings uneven development.

I believe in Capitalism. Wealth has to be created before it can be distributed. Efficient wealth creation requires capitalism. Government has to ensure that the capitalism has a level playing field.

I see some statements which are contradictory to the ideals of capitalism. 1- Distributed- if wealth created by an individual is taken fron him and distributed it amounts to violation of his rights. 2-Level playing feild- Such cliched phrases only amount to restrictions to free trade.

Capitalism does not claim to improve standard of living or create a fair playing ground, though these things come about as a side effect. It is a system which ensures trade betwen willing individuals, free of intervention. The creation ,of monopolies or of competition ,is a function of market forces. Even in the wake of certain people seeming disadvantaged ,because of capitalism ,government intervention is not justified, because the end does not justify the means. The farm subsidies in the UK and US are the making of the governments, not capitalism.

Wealth distribution not by force but voluntarily. The role of the government is to ensure equal opportunities to everyone. In a license permit raj, few privileged benefited due to their proximity to those in power. Also it created a non competitive market creating sub standard products. Even today globalization is biased. Farm subsidies in UK and US hurt farmers of developing countries. It is responsibility of the government to protect the interests. The movement of people is also restricted which is a step against capitalism. The idea of capitalism is to maximize profits by proper utilization of resources. A monopoly may not necessarily do so, as it may get complacent. For eg. Microsoft has thwarted competition and probably delayed efficient development of better software products. I would like to pursue the discussion after your response.
