I am curious to know who your favorite American president is, and why?
I would say that my favorite president is Abraham Lincoln. He was the first president I really read up on- my grandmother had the book "Lincoln", by Gore Vidal. It was one of the longest books I'd read before the age of 12, with the exception of The Warren Commission's Report on the Assassination of JFK".
Lincoln came from truly humble beginnings. He was basically self-taught, in terms of his education. He fought for freedom and for democracy. He ended slavery in the Confederacy, and did all he could to abolish it forever- securing the addition of the 13th Amendment to the US Constitution. His Gettysburg Address has also been touted as one of the most quoted, most moving, and just all around greatest speeches of all time. Certainly of all presidents to date.

I was obsessed when it came to his assassination. I read tons of books about it, watched several movies, etc.. to the point where I think I was having nightmares. LOL
