is property just to expensive? please give me your opinion.

hello. property's just seem to be getting higher and higher everyday, prices are just getting so high that i feel that a normal working person just cant afford to buy their own property. houses around my area cost an average of about £250,000 in the uk, that's roughly around $495,000 in us dollars. that's just for a normal house, nothing posh, just a typical two bedroom house. now i dont own my own property, but i would love to buy my own house for my family, but with the costs just to high theres no way i can afford one, i could never afford one not unless i won the lottery LOL. theres a family who live opposite me, her husband earns very good money, and when i say good money i mean very good money, but even they have trouble with costs, so what chances do a normal working person have? what is it like in your area, are property's expensive, and if you do own you're own place is owning the place money draining?
