Do you believe that it is harder today to move up the social ladder than before?

Continuing my discussions on social class. One of the points made yesterday on Oprah was that it is harder today to move up the social ladder than ever before? Do you believe that? I personally dont believe that and I find it very dangerous to throw that out there to the population. I think that a statement like that can cause people trying to move up to get discouraged by hearing people like Oprah or social class experts make statements like that. People are what makes social classes. People decide whether they want to move up or stay where they are at. To discourage people this way, I think it is incredibly dangerous.
What do you think?

Well i too believe that it is no difficult task to move up the social ladder but i don't think it would make any difference to those who want to. These days anyone who sets out to achieve is an achiever already. they are prepared for the worse and are aware of the hurdles they have to face in the way. So this little talk on oprah won't really discourage / disappoint them for sure. But you are right that it's no big deal to do this - those who want, go for it and get it !
