Why the morbid curiosity?

Sadam Hussian is hung and suddenly if you haven't seen the video your out of the loop. Is it the need to feel vindicated or just morbid curiosity that draws us to things like this? Isn't it enough to know that he has paid for his crime against humanity? Why must so many people actually see the brutal hanging of a terrorist to make it real for themselves? This man abused his power and robbed mill.ions of their dignity, human rights and even their lives, but aren't people who use this to gain traffic to web sites or to profit from it in anyway guilty of a simaliar crime? For me he has done enough damage and I won't put those images in my head that would only torment me, giving him power even in death

In the UK, the media have been really two-faced about this issue. On the day tha footage was released, the BBC stated that it had made the decision not to show the footage because it was distasteful, unnecessary (for exactly the reasons you rightly deal with) and gratuitous. The following day they u-turned and started showing it, and were still showing it today. It seems the media will show anything, if they feel there is a penny to be gained, or to not seem to be out of touch. It's appalling. It reminds me of a similar incident in the US a couple of years back, when there was some unsavoury footage regarding US troops, which was on the internet, and the government asked the US media to respect the dignity of the victims, yet Rupert Murdoch chose to show it, and even made a half-hour special. I cannot recall the specific footage, but feel this shows that across the world, the media abuses the freedom of speech legislation, often to revel in the pain and suffering of others, when a well-balanced verbal account would suffice.

I guess you can refer to me as 'oout of the loop' then.. I have not yet seen the video of his hanging nor am I interested in vewing that.. Nothing interesting in viewing a man hang.. No car chase, so shooting no excitement at all.. I too wonder why people are so interested to watch him hang.. So much better to spend that quality time doing quality things.. Life is short after all, we never know when our time is up.. People should realise that and live life to the fullest...

I have also seen the video. There has also been a lot of hype in the media about this. This just shows us what psychological changes are now occuring in people nowadays seeing so much voilence all around us.

I would never watch such a video. The ending of any life should be treated with some sort of respect, even in this case of a man who probably deserved to die.

No I dont believe he has power anymore. People are just curious like the cat. I did not watch it on video but my husband did. He was such a hated man that people want to watch him suffer. and I dont blame them one bit. In a couple of months you wont even hear of his name. As time goes on he will be dust in the air and but never forgotten of how sick of a man he was.

People have a need I guess to see what's going on. Its like the rubberneckers that are looking to see the accident on the side of the road or see who's getting a ticket that slow down going by so they can look and almost get run over by people that don't care to look. I do not know why people do that. But they do. Have you ever noticed that in an emergency room waiting room people stare intensely at someone who is injured? they don't stare at someone who is sick.. they stare at bleeding people. Humans are strange that way I guess. Maybe we are all morbid. Personally I do not need to see someone hang. In my opinion it is a terrible way to die. I would have nightmares. There is enough unpleasantness in this world.

I had no desire to see this video and I know that there were many people who thought the same. There are those out there that do have a morbid curiosity I think though and even the media seems to think that people want to see something like that

As we speak, there are 10 things occurring that are much more vicious and corrupt than the Saddam video, on a global scale, the only difference is that you will never hear anything about it in the mainstream media, which is going to blind you with their reports. When the 9/11 truth was gaining place in public opinion the TV was full of Britney, when the truth about forged reports on WMD was hitting the honest people everything was full of Michael Jackson child abuse scandal. Whether you want to know the truth or not, only depends on how much effort you want to put in it.

Yes there are a lot of morbid people in the world so I think that this is the reason why they like to see a video like this, but then I do not think that people are guilty of similar crimes like Saddam Hussein did, but then again I do not believe that people should be allowed to make such videos.

I saw the clip myself. I believe alot of viewing is just that..morbid quoriosity. But what I watched for is to see if he showed any signs of remorse for the things that he had done. I don't think I need to see it again. I don't understand those that watch it repeatedly.

I saw the video because I wanted to and belive me it's nothing morbid there, there are horror movies that are more morbid then that execution. After he was busted we don't know much about what happend so I can't tell for what exactly he was judge. Have a nice day on my lot

I saw the video, and you know what it really didn't gross me out that much... I think our society has put out so many f***ed up things that I'm just desensitized to things like this! Looking back when I was viewing it I wasn't thinking about a man dying, but more an era ending... You don't need to see it, because it's nothing all that special... Something you have to see is the clip on youtube "fast food freestyle", it's a classic if you don't cheer up after that then I have failed!

for those who havent seen it... i suggest its better left that way... but for those of us who have seen it ... i think its a cruel reminder how foolish times have become... with absolute comtempt for life and the values we keep close to our hearts... lets all work towards making a better place to live in...
