I wish I could, but my parents have passed and there's no one in New Jersey I want to live near. Yes, I am a 100% Heinz 57 variety, caucasian voting-since-I-was-18-American, born of 20th century immigrant stock on one side and 16th century Dutch settlers on the other. However I'm MUSLIM. I converted from Christianity - why? Because it preaches you to be two-faced and I was tired of it. I researched and studied for years before discovering Islam and on my own, decided to make Shahada (decree of faith) - no water dousing, no touching of hands or pouring of oils, or screams of excitement. A quiet decree to Allah (which is ARABIC for One God, NOT a separate deity) for His Forgiveness of my sins, a promise I would live each day in brotherhood to all (not just to a select few), live humbly and modestly in word and deed (including dress), and give charity to who needed it, even if it was just a smile. No man forced me to change so he could marry me, no one told me I had to be Muslim to join in the Islamic communities activites, no one pushed literature and judgement slurs down my throat uninvited. What I got were my questions answered eagerly and truthfully, and if the Muslim or Muslimah did not know the answer, they would seek a source for me. I am so sick of ignorance displayed about Islam because od a few fanatics. Islam is the 2nd largest religion in the world and in America. It cant be as bad as the free press anoints it can it. Now we have Congressmen arguing to stop immigration so Muslims will stop coming to thisd country. Hello? Is this thing on? The Middle East doesnt hold a patent on Islam, Muslims come from EVERY country --- including the USA. Proud to be a Muslimah, Bee (Basimah)

I am a Christian, and i have to say as an individual I am insulted. Some Christians are the way that you describe, but not ALL. I am a Christian and I do not push my religion down anyone's throat, I am not two face, I do give chariety to many organizations and individuals, and even to class rooms!! I do much volunteer work for my community, including the elderly, and the younger !! I think that what you describe does match some Christians as much as the tabloids describe muslims, but only pertains to a few. You shouldn't stero type christians then complain about how the press and others sterotype you/other muslims. Your not changing being two faced, your just taking it with you to another religion. That doesn't make the religion bad, just you. Just like others. When a Christian does something bad, it unfortunatly reflects on all Christians not just that person, but that is exactly the way that it should be. Pray for your God and be blessed, but don't critisise another religion because your experiance was bad. Otherwise you are no better then the person you preaching about.

By 2-faced I meant Christian sects think they are better than the other Christian sects. I joined a Baptist church once because I liked the people and they turned around and told me I couldnt have Church of Christ friends anymore when I was seen having lunch with a few. They said only Baptist Christians would go to Heaven. Thats 2-faced to me.

Thats right BEE say it loud lol. People have there minds mixed up and they are soo ignorant. To think by stoping immigration will keep the muslims from coming into the country...goodness and these are the so called "leaders" of the country. The ones to be looked up to? They cant stop Islaam as much as they try. Take care.

I find it funny whenever an American tells a Latino, African, Arab, Haitian, etc. to 'go back where they came from.' America is the ultimate land of immmigrants, everyone except for native Americans came from somewhere else at some point. My oldest ancestors came to these shores in the 1600s, but still, they came here from another country!

Because as a muslim we can't stand in one place for syiar islam, thats why a lots of muslim came to usa or other nation not only for looking portion but syiar too.

Salam alikom sister! Great to hear you have found islam. I understand what you are saying. Some western people and even arabic people think islam is for arabs (only). But when you look at the numbers the majority of the muslims aren't arabs. The biggest islamic country is Indonesia for instance. And as 'real' western people (meaning the 'white / caucasion' people) sometimes have to struggle extra hard. When it comes to their family who aren't muslim and do not understand your choise. But also from people who have been msulim for all of their lives, who claim islam as theirs and think they know it best. Even if you've converted a long long time ago.

yeah they come from every country. But your playing ignorance how the numbers could be this large, just by force muslim rulers converted millions of people, if somebody he is killed, that is way of islam. Even in 90% of the muslims are either Hindus, Sikhs, jain or Buddhists.

Of course Chrisdtians NEVER forced anyone to change their religion. Ever hear of the Spanish Inquisition? What about the forced conversions and persecutions of the Jews all the way to the 19th century by Christians?

Brother no one ever forced anybody to convert, the history is always changed by those who are ruling so if you say the hindus, jain, sikhs (who came into existance after Islam came to India), were forced then please check your history. Islam came to the hindus through the saint in Ajmer who came all the way from Arab to kill the devil worshipper Kali in bengal and then on his victory return journey many converted to islam looking at his deeds and no sword. then he settled in Ajmer in Rajasthan. So do check when you speak. Also for islam no one can force anybody to believe in one almighty as it is from heart you get this feeling, like sister bee herself a christian searched for a better religion then christianity and got islam, if you also be true to yourself leaving all your anger and false from your heart, clear your heart of everything and just seat and think for some time for the reason of your creation as everything created has a reason then you might find your creator and he shall guide you to the path of truth. Be kind to oneself and just give some time for yourself as you are giving so much time to family, friends, office, and other things, just give some time for your self and you will come to know the truth and enlightment shall come to you. As Allah says if you come towards me 1 step I shall come 2 and if you come towards me walking I shall come to you running. So just put 1 step and see what happens......
