Glutaric acidemia is a metabolic disorder. Both the parents have to have the gene for the child to get the disorder. There is a 25% chance the child will get the disorder. If one parent has the disorder, the defected gene will just be passed to the child and be a carrier of the gene. Evidently my husband and I have the gene. My son is 3 years old and was diagnosed with GA1 at birth. Which is a life saver. When people with metabolic disorders are diagnosed at birth, they have a much better outcome at life than those that are not diagnosed at birth. Dealing with this disorder as with any requires a lot of hard work and caution. That is why I am a stay at home mother at 23. If anyone has a metabolic disorder please contact me. I am only in contact with one other person that has a son that is 5 with a metabolic disorder called MCADS. Thank you!
