I'm visiting New York this summer to see some family and thought I'd swing by NYC for a day or two since I've never been.
Any tips on what to see since I'll only be able to really visit for a day and a half?? Also, tips on where to stay. I've found some afforable inn's in the upper west side of manhattan. is that a good area?
What are some must see's that won't take a long time, since i want to pack in as much stuff as possible

I lived there for 3 years and had to move because of my husband's job- and still cry over the move a year later (sad)...You should definitely do the downtown thing- see the statue, walk up broadway- see ground zero. Go to the seaport and see the Brooklyn Bridge. Walk further on broadway to Canal Street- everyone has to experience Canal Street!! Then walk up broadway to Soho!! That was one of my favorite things to show people!

Now this is a question that i can answer! i just so happen to live in NYC!! it depends on what street in the upper west side. You would better off staying either in Mid-town or the Village. Only because you want to be able to walk where ever you go. you can always jump on a train but the real NYC experience is done walking. that is if the weather stays nice.
I woule recommend that you do the Time Square thing, I would recommed you take the Staten Island Ferry boat ride. It is free and if you take the boat between 5 and 5:30. you will get a breath taking view. I suggest that you find a food cart outside that everyone is standing in line for and get in line, it's going to be a cheap and yummy lunch!! have fun, and let me know how your trip was when you get back!

New york new york.. hmm let me see.. If you're gonna stay in Manhattan then i suggest you visit nearest places in Manhattan first like the very famous New Year ball dropping place Time Square, you can also visit Rockefeller Center i heard they now have an observatory. Aside from the Rockefeller you can visit the EmpireState as an observatory place. Then you can walk around the Central Park and rent a boat and try to paddle and see some bikinis out there since you will be going in summer :). You can also visit the Ground Zero. If you're not afraid to ride a ferry then you can also visit Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Then if you want to go bargain shopping then visit Chinatown. If you will be in NY by September and if you're a fan of tennis then try to go to Corona Park in Flushing and watch US Open in Arthur Ashe stadium.
