My friend uses bad language a lot. How do you tell your friend not to use bad language around you?

just tell them, hey stop with the potty mouth. i know i can have a really bad potty mouth, but it depends on who i am with.. some of my friends don't like it and i respect that. some of my friends are worst then me and i respect them too. just be honest. no matter what situation you ever find yourself in, just be honest

I don't know if you can. I have lived with my partner for 18 years and I am still telling him to stop swearing.
If they are a good friend, just say in passing if they are swearing alot, that you feel really uncomfortable as you do not swear and you're not used to hearing such language.
Or make a joke out of it, like telling them you are going to make a swear box and everytime they swear they have to put some money in it, but at the same time hinting that you actually don't like it.
I wish you luck.
If you are successful I could do with your tips.

You just have to come out with it as gently as possible. My husband and I are Christians, but my parents aren't. My father kept using bad language and even worse, around our small children. Finally my husband started asking him to stop. He kept it up though and kept brushing my husband off. Finally, my huband told him that we loved him, but we couldn't come around anymore if he was going to teach our young children to talk like that. My father finally said he would stop. He still tries very hard to watch his language around us. I appreciate my husband treating him with respect, but also being firm about it.
