how much to rely on media

we all know that media is a medium which helps us to get all that is happening in the world.yesterday while i was watching a new channel i saw one channel boosting of giving a particular news first and when i switched on to other new channel they were also claiming to be the first and both the channels were talking about the particular incident but with photos,interviewing the witness present etc etc. but with the huge competition in the world we the viewers cant find out what is the truth and who is saying the truth. the media am talking is all i.e paper,television,radio what do u think?
