How Can The Raiders Fix Things?

Well, as everyone has probably seen or heard on ESPN, Art Schell is no longer the coach of the Raiders. Obviously, it was a disappointing season; worse than the last couple with Norv Turner running things. The team has decent players, could use a better quarterback...They just couldn't seem to pull it together as a team and get on the same page. So, what I'm wondering from other fans is, who do you all think the Raiders should look at to coach the team next year? Of the current roster, who does the team need to cut, and other than a quarterback, what do they need to do either in trades, the draft, or the free agent market to improve and hopefully put a winning team on the field next year? I've been a fan as far back as I can remember, and would never abandon ship, but let's face it...Being a Raider fan ain't easy these days.

You can't make a whole team out of Moss and Sapp. The Raiders need a quarterback and an offensive line and a defense that a high school team wouldn't be ashamed of. I think that if they get Brady Quinn in the draft things will start to turn around. However - Greenbay is a perfect example of how a quarterback doesn't make a whole team. We'll just have to keep believing that they can do it.

it would be a great step forward if the raiders could convince bill cowher to come coach them next season.

It would be...And it'd be a nice slap in the face to the Steelers, which I'd personally enjoy.

Poor Wedersby, the Raiders aren't doing so hot right now. In order for the Raiders to do a lot better than they are right now, they're going to need to get an offensive line and a quarterback. Ideally they would get the offensive line first and then the quarterback second, but I have a feeling that they're going to try and draft a QB with the #1 pick which will set them back a way. Trading Randy Moss and Jerry Porter for more picks also wouldn't hurt. The Raiders are young and have a very unique opportunity to improve (especially with Lane Kiffin) and the best part is they already have the defense that they need. The biggest problem is on offense. But Lane Kiffin is a great hire, you can see my article on it at http://www.sportingnews.com/blog/JMBoraz Feel free to sign up for that.

Thanks for your comments...I agree, the offense needs to be picked, and trading Moss and Porter wouldn't be a bad idea...I'm sure there are plenty of teams who could use them, though the salaries might be an issue. I agree though, they probably will go for a QB first and then deal with the offensive line afterward. I'll definitely check out your blog...I listen to Sporting News Radio quite a bit, but as a blind person, since the magazine itself isn't available in braille, I don't have a chance to read it, though I hit their site occasionally...Just out of curiosity, are you a regular contributor? I think the other thing the Raiders will have to do to be successful, as I said in another discussion about the Raiders, Al Davis needs to step back and let Kiffin actually run the show, and draft the guys he thinks will be the best fit for the team...Al has a history of being a little TOO involved with the day-to-day decisions, and not letting coaches do their jobs. This next season could be interesting.

what are they thinking?!? they already got mediocre running backs, why justin griffith?? damn Raiders need to ditch the deadwood and start from scratch. cut everyone except walters, gallery, moss, grove, huff, sea-bass, porter, sapp, Schweigert, lamont jordan, boothe, washington, sims and burgess. pick up russell or johnson at no#1 and go from there...

Obviously, drafting Jamarcus Russell would be a big plus. Sure, he'll be raw and have a learning curve, but the potential there is sky high. The offensive line MUST be addressed. No matter what QB you have back there, you must protect them and give them atleast the oppurtunity to produce. I think they should hang onto Randy Moss for one more year and see if it works with Russell, who can air it out. Then again, to air it out, you need the protection to give you the time for the play to develop! Jerry Porter hopefully can be brought back in and be a regular contributor. Sure up the o-line and d-line and I think the Raiders are headed the right direction.

I think Moss will be a Raider next season, though I don't know how much production they'll get out of him...Apparently, from what John Clayton was saying on ESPN Radio Saturday, his first conversation with Lane Kiffin didn't go so well. Apparently, Kiffin called Moss to make the introductions and such, and if Clayton is to be believed, Moss pretty much unloaded on Kiffin with a bunch of explitives, and said he had no desire to play for such a young coach...Off to a great start, huh?

Moss should atleast be professional enough to have a good attitude. Or, atleast start acting up when he actually is playing well. He has no room to be behaving like this, he had so many dropped balls it was crazy. I don't have to like the guy, but I'm hoping maybe, just maybe we can get an alright line to protect a QB that's gonna have some downs, but also some ups...and Randy will start producing again...if not, well hopefully we can get something decent for him...and besides...Ronald Curry needs some more balls thrown his way!

Simple, get rid of their owner Davis or bring Grodin back. He really stuck it to Davis after he let him go and he won the title SuperBowl a year later. He is never satisfied.

the thing going for the raiders is they already have their defense set. they just need to address their need at qb, oline, wr
