European Union, The new Superpower?

For 50 years NATO and the Warsaw Pact countries formed the 2 superpowers led by The United States and the former Soviet Union. Now the European Union is expanding and has become a political Union as well. Are they the new Superpower and how do you think this will affect the World's political situation?
