Do you play with the shopping trolley?

All Elusive Butterfly's posts about shopping reminded me of when I used to play with the shopping trolley. I used to love when I was a kid, jumping up on the front bar and wheeling myself really fast down the aisle........always when my mother couldn't see me though or I'd probably have got a clip across the ear.
Even now there are times when I'm sorely tempted to put my foot up on that bar and push off to whizz down the aisle. Only with the weight I am now I'm fairly sure that I'd cause a major injury if I collided with anyone.
I used to put my daughters into the trolley and they'd have great fun as I wiggled the trolley from side to side down the aisles.
Do you play with your shopping trolley?

I am happy that I have triggered a fond memory for you. My kids loved to ride on the front of the carts too. I had 4 kids so we always had an adventurous time when we shopped. One would sit on the bottom of the cart. One in the basket and one in the seat. The oldest would fetch items on the lower shelves. The one one the bottom would have to leave her perch when the bottom rack needed to be used for larger items. They would hand the items to the kids in the cart.

My kids would load up the cart and it wasn't until I got home that I found them.

Your shopping posts have been great Elusive Butterfly. Ah, the thrills of having small kids with you when shopping. You get to the till and there are so many things in the trolley that you don't remember putting there (because you didn't).

The joy of 24 hour shopping. At some stage of the night there's always an empty aisle. :)

No we never did or do that. They are not toys and the injuries that you could get are not worth the risk. We have enjoyed the speed of them though when going down a sloping parking lot. Again control is needed since they could damage someones car.

OMG. You must be one of those people who are always ramming their shopping trollies into my ankles. I think people who jump on their trollies and whizz around the supermarket, should be banned...especially the adults. Just remember, you may bump into your mother some day, and I would say she culd still give you a clip of the ear. You are never too old, so be careful.

There was a reason I used to whizz around on the trolley when my mother wasn't looking.........

I try not to do any shopping at all, dislike supermarkets, I would rather just do it all from home and get supermarkets to deliver direct, unfortunately my wife loves shopping at supermarkets and does not want to miss anything, so we can spend hours wandering down the aisles.
By the way did you know its not just cans that talk, there are talking trolly's as well. In the future it might be upsetting stopping the trollies from haveing a meaningful conversation with the cans.
Or maybe I'm just 'Off my Trolly'

Shopping is probably a woman thing. I love supermarket shopping too, especially when I have money to spend. Anything could be on the menu then.
Oh dear.......talking trolleys......maybe you need to rest.......

Yes wouldn't it be fun to have a ride on the shopping trolley but then again I am not young like I used to be and at the weight I am as well I would probably end up in the hospital, so I do not play with the shopping trolley, but I know my children did but as long as there was nobody in the aisle I did not get upset with them, they have to have a bit of fun and so as nobody got hurt it was ok with me.

Yes, they have to get it out of their system. And it's a bit of harmless fun.....so long as they don't head for the eggs or something.

I never used to play with the trolley as such, though i did like pushing it, though when its heavy and you're a kid, going around corners can be a bit of a challenge!
But today if they put a bar on the bottom that i could stand on, you can bet that (if no one was around!) i would push off and take the trolley for a spin! lol

Sometimes the trolleys only have side bars, but it's possible to stick your feet in the sides........oh......not that I've tried it recently or anything. LOL!

The ones we had when I was a kid you could pull part of the cart down in the front and sit in it while someone else pushed. It was a lot of fun.
The last time I saw carts like that, I was about 18 or so. My roomie and I had been out late partying (imagine that) and got hungry, so we decided to shop before going home.
Boy were we wasted and silly. Grown girls riding up and down the aisle (well, I did the pushing) singing and getting in the stock boys' way. Acting a fool in general.
I can honestly say that was the last time I played with a shopping cart, lol.

I used to do this as a child and I was reminded of what happened when I saw a kid do the exact same thing...
Child swinging out of trolley, manages to pull the trolley asunder, food goes everywhere, child hysterical, mother shouting - never again! how embarrassed would you be as an adult if you had a trolley accident.

I'm too dangerous with a trolley!! I'm one of those ankle knockers!...LOL! actually not funny, quite painful- i speak from experience.
Do put my daughter in it tho and my 'husband' is the one who plays down the aisles....

If I have to got on a weekly shop with kids and a trolley, I stand them both in it and wriggle it about, do car noises around the corners and when "braking" and if we can get a bit of a run at it do skids, anything to keep them amused. I like to ride on the trolley handle and fly like Titanic too but I'm always careful of other shoppers.
My other ploys are letting them walk and pick things up to put in the trolley, it's amazing how far a bag of sugar can spread round a shop, lol.

I sure so. I like to get up some speed and cruse around. I don't even care that I tend to knock things over, I figure if nothing breaks then there is no problem. My boyfriend always picks it up for me out of embarassment anyway. heh heh
I did this once with a laundry cart at a launder place when my washer broke.... I chipped my collar bone and from then on I leave those alone.... Ouch! That steel bar is not to be underestimated!

I almost got run over by a kid with one today! He was comin' down the aisle and totally didn't notice I was there. pfft.
I used to do it all the time. Not so much anymore though because I'm a little too heavy for it.. it'd be my luck the cart would tip over on me. :P If there's stuff in it, then yeah, I've done it before. It's fun!

Hehehe...I used to do the same thing when I was a little kid. One time when I was about 16, I conviced my friend to get in the basket. I pushed her down an isle and ran to hide. I almost peed my pants when she couldn't get out and a clerk had to help her.
We still laugh about it now at 46....She now lives 3000 miles away. But when we see each other (a coupel times a year) I always say when we enter a store...."Want me to give you a ride?"...lol Great topic.

Usually, I am the model of a dignified shopper but....every now and then I still do hop on that bar and ride the cart across the parking lot to my car, but not too fast, because I'm afraid I'll pop a wheelie and pull the cart back over on myself!
