i dont know about all the belts , but for sure the black belt is the highest category in karate.

In Japanese karate, it starts with white which is the 8th kyu. yellow - 7th kyu. green - 6th kyu. blue - 5th kyu. violet - 4th kyu. Next is brown which has three level, the 3rd kyu, 2nd kyu and 1st kyu. After brown is black which is now the 1st dan. black is the highest with many levels. it could go as far as 20th dan i think but for true master, 10th dan is already a great master. Whom i know is sensei kanazawa from japan who split up from jka and formed the skif. To the masters, seniors, shihan, and to the chief instructors, i hope posting this wont offend our different organizations. Thank you

belt ranking colors depends on what kind of martial arts and organization you are into. Some may use black as the highest and some uses red as the highest belt.
