I love watching good weepy films and I am trying to build up my collection. I have just bought Madam X and The Cardinal as I saw these years back and they are the type that I would watch over and over again. Could you suggest any that I might like? All suggestions are very welcome.

Wow, you have a major list going here!!! I am a huge fan of tear-jerkers because when I feel the need to cry, and it won't come out, I just put one in and let it go. So...are you ready!!!??!
Bambi...that's a given
The Story of Us...with Michelle Phiffer and Bruce Willis
Sweet November...Keanu Reeves and Charlise Theron
White Fang...sorry don't know the actors name
Uptown Girls...Britney Murphy and Dakota Fanning--weepy towards the end
Phenomenon...with John Travolta
The Kid...another one with Bruce Willis
and of course Serendipity (more moving than weepy for me) and Braveheart. I have seen a lot of them, just not a lot came to my mind. But if you want any more recommendations for any type of movie, I'll be happy to help.

Thank you. I hadn't got Sweet November on my list. Must check that out to-day in between all my sobbing as I go through all the others.

Yes, you're right. That's quite a list. The only one I saw and I have part of it taped is The Kid. I thought it was both funny and sad and I love watching it over again. Thanks a million rosey, I appreciate all your help.

Ha, I always check them before I buy them, so now I know. It sounds just like my type of film so I have just bought it on eBay. Thanks a million for suggesting it.

Does the movie have to be "weepy" throughout or is the ending good enough for you?
If so, I recommend the movie "Acacia".
http://imdb.com/title/tt0380164/
It's classified as "horror", except there's no real horror. It's more like a supernatural family drama. It's a little corny and sentimental at times and that's what makes it "weepy". Can't really promise you'll like it, but if you want to try something a little different...

Oh, a weepy end will do just fine. If I was to cry all the way through it, sure I wouldn't be able to watch it and maybe a little horror will add to the excitement. Thanks for the link. I will check on it now, and more than likely I will buy it.

I have already checked them and there seems to be a mixed reaction. I decided that I will probably like it, so I have just ordered it from sendit.com I will just have to watch it when I am not going to be disturbed as I will have to read the subtitles. Thanks again for all your help.

the pursuit of happyness, the double life of veronique, blood diamond, to name a few. I can come back with more, but I,m a bit tired now. Hopefully you,ll like these. The films by krieszof Kieszlowski are beautifully sad, so see if you can find the double life of veronique. enjoy!

My alltime favorite is Shadowlands, about the life of C.S. Lewis, played by Anthony Hopkins. Debra Winger plays Joy, the woman he marries. I won't tell you any more....

I would love to see the life of C.S Lewis. I am sure I will find it very interesting. I didn't even know that film existed and Anthony Hopkins is a great actor. This one is definitley going on my priority list. Thanks for suggesting them.

I just found your discussion and I have to be honest with you; didn't read all of the responses to your discussion, as it's getting late, so don't know if anyone else has suggested this movie.
My very favorite, weepy film is: Somewhere in Time with Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour...I love that movie and would like to find a copy of it sometime. It is so romantic and will make you cry so hard.

I think it was suggested somewhere along the line but I haven't bought it yet as I still have a bundle to watch. Thanks for reminding me about it as I love Jane Seymour and Christopher Reeve. There might be some copies of it on eBay or Amazon.

I really liked a movie called A Walk to Remember. Singer Mandy Moore is in it. It's a sad but good movie. I love watching it over and over.

I've just checked it out, and it sounds quite interesting. I have added it to my list and will look for the cheapest copy (I'm a skinflint) later to-day. I'm tired of sobbing after watching some of the others that are listed, so this will make a nice change. Thanks a million for responding.

I recommend My Life with Michael Keaton and Nicole Kidman. Also, who could forget about Steel Magnolias or Terms of Endearment? I cried like a baby when I saw King Kong, as well, but that's just me! :-)

Oh, I didn't know that King Kong was sad. But I suppose if the old version is anything to go by, then I would probabaly shed a few tears too. Thanks khristal23

I must admit that I don't particularly like watching tearjerkers as I'm a big baby and end up crying so much that I have a headache so I'd much rather watch a good old comedy or murder mystery. As for suggestions for weepies, some of the most obvious ones would be Titanic, It's a Wonderful Life, Bambi, Ghost, My Girl, Beaches, Truly Madly Deeply, Casablanca, Brief Encounter and Terms of Endearment. I hope at least some of them are ones you've yet to see :)

I also get a headache but I think this from trying to hold back the tears. If there is nobody at home then I can just let them flow in comfort. Thanks for the great list. I haven't seen most of them and the others, I would difinitely love to see again. Super!

Some good weepy movies that I have enjoyed, although they typically aren't romance movies, are the animal ones. I like Milo and Otis, Eight Below, and even Mighty Joe Young. If you would like to step out of the realm of love stories and chick flicks and find some movies that will nevertheless touch your heart you should look into this particular genre.

I didn't see the first two, but I saw Mighty Joe Young at the cinema a good few years back and I wouldn't mind watching it again. Thanks for your recommendations. I really appreciate it.

Being male there's not many films that actually produce a tear from me! But ONE and that was or is Titanic. By the end of the film I will have cried, no matter how many times I watch the film I cry! Because it's based on a true story and its about unforbidden love, all those poor people that perished back in 1912. If you want a weepy then it has to be without a doubt Titanic, watch, enjoy and sob your heart out, it's a tear jerker alright!

I actually saw the black and white one and it was just as sad as the remake. I saw the remake, but thanks for reminding about it as I would love to have it in my collection so that I cant watch it over and over again. I think there is also a sequel to it on dvd, so I must see if I can get that one also. Thanks for your detailed response, much appreciated.

I doubt if I could watch a weepy movie if I feel down in the dumps. I reckon I would sob my heart out and then feel twice as bad. Thanks for the names and I will certainly add them to my list.

I watched The Fisher King with Jeff Bridges and Robin Williams. It is one of the most moving films I have seen. I am not even a fan of Robin Williams but he is brilliant.
Also Sophies Choice-sad from start to finish.
Garden State-is very moving.
The Colour Purple-truly emotional from start to finish
The Deer Hunter-sad,sad,sad
Saving Private Ryan-the ending breaks your heart
Dumbo-Baby of mine leaves no eye dry!!
Also as mentioned before The Bridges Of Maddison County. My god I was a wreck while watching this film.
Terms Of Endearment is great. I saw this years ago at the cinema and had to wait for everyone else to leave the cinema, as I was a mess.
I love a good weepy film that also has a good and intellectual storyline.
I hope these have been useful suggestions.
Happy Weeping!!!

Very useful, thank you. I have added them to my list and now as well as the tissues, I must also add a pair of sunglasses so that my red swollen eyes will not be seen. You definitely deserve a plus rating for your excellent and detailed response.

I'm not a big fan of weepers but I always thought "Imitation of Life" with Lana Turner & Sandra Dee was the king of the weepers and I don't see it listed here anywhere...Just thought I'd throw that in.

If you have not seen the movie yet I would say get The Piano. This movie is a good one made in 1993. It brought tears to my eyes.
