are cell phones a pseudo-status symbol in india currently?

I see many people conspicuously handling cell phones in such a way as to be noticed by others. This is particularly true of riders of 2-wheelers. I feel that many of the nouveau rich and semi literate feel it is!1

ofcourse now mobile phone are used just to show others. Most of them are buying latest mobiles to impress grls or their friends. even they use their bikes for these purpose.
