My wife wants an Eskie and I am good with that. They few Eskies I have encountered have been great dogs. I am an experienced dog trainer so I understand basic animal behavior. I am looking for an insight into their personalities. Can you share some thoughts, please?

I can't believe that no one responded to this post?? Oh well, Let me the first then ;D
I have been owned by American Eskimo's for 18 years, and I love this breed. Very smart, extremely loyal and loving companions. They are the "Dog Beautiful". American eskimo's can be fiercely protective over their people, but with guidance and care, mine (all reccues) have done very well with strangers. I had one fear biter, but I can tell you that it is not a breed characteristic, it is more in my opinion, a small dog issues. Eskies are no different that any other dog when it comes to fear biting. They are more protective than other non-sporting dogs, so perhaps that is why they have somewhat of a bad reputation.
There are several excellent American Eskimo Rescues that can help you get started. Tracie Cobb and TLC Eskie Rescue, and Eskie Rescuers United would be great resources for you to start with. Go to www.petfinder.com and use your search to find the perfect Eskie for you and your current living environment.
Big eskie smiles to you!

I have had my american eskimo for 8 months now and I love her. She is very smart and loves to do anything to please me. At times she can get very hyper and wound up. When I first brought her home she was very shy and timid. I have been working with her the entire time I have had her and she has come along way. The key is socialization. Sometimes when I'm not able to get her out and about I can definitely see a change she kind of regress' a little. I noticed you posted this awhile ago so if you now have an Eskie that's terrific! And if not, I hope you are still considering one, because she is the best thing I could've ever gotten.
