I look at how we used to take care of our aging parents. It used to be one big happy family, often under one roof. These days, all the kids usually move away and/or just all get new houses. We also have jobs that take us here and there and the fact that both parents work, further decreases that labor force to care for our parents at home.
Is this the biggest reason that you think we now ship our elderly to stay in a nursing home?
are there other factors more important?
And the biggest question, - Should we feel guilty when we can't care for our parents in our home??

People are living longer. Often with medical conditions that require more care than can be provided in the families homes. There is also conflicks living with ones in-laws that make it stressful for everone in the household.

I dont think we should feel guilty if we cant take care of parents in our on home but I think that we should do the best and the very best we can to take the best possible care of them to the best of our ability.

That depends. A lot of times, the eldery have medical conditions that we are unable or unequipped to handle, and therefore would be better off in a setting where all their needs could be met. Dementia is a progressive disease, where the patient only gets worse with time, and one that unfortunately many eldery people suffer from. With dementia, they can become unpredictable as the disease advances and they could wander out in the middle of the night because they are disoriented. Their needs will continue to increase month to month, and I just think people tend to believe the kindest thing to do is to seek professional care and keep them in a safe and supportive environment.
