I had a man in my life 20 yrs ago.I felt at the time that he was my soulmate but things some how went bad. I have stayed in touch every 5 yrs or so. Today he indicated to me that he thought I had cheated on him way back then! wHICH IS TOTALLY FALSE!I was so hurt to think that after all these years he had been harboring those negative ideas about me! But I digress from my topic. CAN you rekindle love from long ago? I know you can never go back to the way it was back then but can a new love spring forth based on what you DID have back then? I am probably verbalising this wrong but I hope you get the jist of it. Any ideas yall?

You both were probably young at the time of the first meeting. You didn't say what went bad with the relationship, but a trust issue is a hard one to overcome.
I think if you care for each other, and the interest is there, go for it. You both are older now and more mature. I would not jump in to an intimate relationship to start with. With time, you will both know if the love is there. If it is, then you both will be happy. If not, enjoy hanging out with your friend.
