Well I don't know about you guys, but around here I'm always hearing people referring to police officers as "pigs". Well an Austrailian man has been sent to spend a day at a pig farm and forced to write an essay describing the differences between police officers and pigs. Apparently the 22 year old man had a little too much to drink when he did this and claims that he's very sorry. If you'd like to read the article, the source is listed below: Source of the article: http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_1380258.html Do you think that he recieved proper punishment? Why or why not? If not, what should have been done differently? How often do you hear people referring to police officers has "pigs"? Do you find it disrespectful or just dirty humor?

I think it's disrespectful, but not necessarily illegal. I don't know the laws in Australia, but here in the states, calling an officer a pig is not a punishable offense by itself.

Yes it is an old saying that Australians call the police "pigs" oh dear that is funny. No this is not proper punishment as I as an Australian have never heard such rot normally if someone is drunk they will be either taken home or put in the cell until that person is more sober nothing else, no I do not find it disrespectful as some of the police act worse than pigs and yet you can find other police very nice and helpful it all depends on which one you get to solve your problem or if you are a problem to the police.

well, this type of situation is prevailing in every country almost. But its not correct referring all police officers as pigs but definetly some are eligible to be called so by the ways they behave with common people.

LOL this is the funniest punishment ever!!! he learned his lesson well and i think it's the best punishment ever. police officers are merely doing what they are suppose to do, so it's very unfair to refer them as 'pigs' the 22 year old man deserve this punishment!!

Refering to law enforcement as "pig" never really made any sense to me. If his punishment served the purpose...then it was appropriate. Many other countries choose to shame people with such a punishment....I say if it works the do it.

I have to admit after reading the news article I'm laughing. I find it very disrespectful to call a police officer a pig. I don't think its punishable here in the states although its not a bright move to make. I think they might have taught this young man a lesson though by making him stay on that pig farm for a day. I think maybe if others did the same thing they see that pig is not a appropriate name for a police officer. Never understood where that saying came from in the first place.

I think considering what the punishment was, it was proper. Sending him to jail for calling a police officer a name would have been a little much, but teaching someone respect in a fitting way is always good.

Personally, I do not like police officers, and I think many are corrupt, and was told so once or twice. When I was a teen, police were called that all the time. NOT illegal. I don't think he should have received that type of punishment, but next time he'll learn to be more respectful. Personally, I've heard more derogatory remarks made about nurses, and those men should probably go to the pig farm. Women too! good discussion.

I think this is very degrading anfg I don't believe that they did something like this. I think this is a clear lawsuit for the fifth amendment. So what is he called the police pigs. I will say it all day, pig , pig, pig and I once was a police. That is Ludicrous.

thats is one good action to give a lesson on some people with out respect to our officials, but to all officials if you want to earn respect then act as a respectable one too.. dont ask respect, respect is given freely not by forced and demand.

Yes it's disrespectful to the police. But I know a police officer in the city that I live in that has a tie tac that is a pig. I used to work at the local casino, in the security department, and this is how I had met him. AT least there are some police officers that also have a sense of humor. It could have been worse, it could have bee a tie tac of a donut. LOL:)

I think it's disrespectful. It's like calling other people derogatory names as a put down. The police risk their lives everyday trying to keep our city safe, and they deserve more respect from the public. This guy who bad-mouthed the police deserved the punishment. It's a creative form of punishment very appropriate for the offense.

I think it is very disrespectful to call a policer officer "pig". These men and women risk their lives every time they go on duty. They have to deal with the scum of the earth. I give them alot of credit for what they have to deal with.

Although disrespectful that is a hilarious punishment. It seems like something you would do to a child not a grown man.....If it served it purpose the punishment was fair.. I rarely ever hear anyone calling a police a ppig let alone to his face.around my neck of the woods we just call them coppers. I think it's disrespectful if you say it to their face definatley but the reason people say things like that is because authorities probally have done something to them.
