Many people work sedentary jobs that don't offer much physical activity in a day. Are we doomed to "secretary spread"? Not if you have a plan of action!
Don't fall for gimicks to lose weight or get in shape. The only true method is expend more calories than you take in. Pretty simple, right? Well, in order to do that effectively, you need to know how many calories your body uses on a daily basis and compare that to what you consume in a day. A great website I found to help you do this is called Fitday. There is a free version located at http://www.FitDay.com. You will be able to track ALL activity that burns calories, including basic metabolism, and put that up against calories you take in and activities you do. This will allow you to see in full color what is going on with your body and will give you the motivation needed to start getting on the right track.

Yes, even if you sit at a desk all day you can still try to stay fit. I used to take walks around my office or outside. I would stand up while talking on the phone, because standing burns more calories than sitting.
And I would try to keep healthy snacks in my desk for times when I really needed something to eat. This way there wouldn't be the temptation to go to the vending machines and get high-calories cookies, candy, and cakes.
I'll check out that Web site, thanks for mentioning it.

The site is great. Don't bother buying the pay version because the free one is just as good, really. I use it to keep track of everything. It's amazing once you see how much you take in versus what's expended how you change your eating habits.
