I get a bump on the end of my tongue sometimes and it hurts like someone has cut it open for surgery. Why does this happen? I have not bitten my tongue nor have I told a lie. My Mother use to tell me this, but she was wrong! I cannot find a reason for this to happen. Any suggestions?
A friend says it is from using your tongue to get things out from between your teeth. Can that be it?

I don't know what causes this problem but I will tell you how I deal with it when it happens to me. Mash the bump with your finger nail like you would any bump you come across. Then put listerine on it. The next day it will be gone and it won't hurt anymore. Now when you do this it will hurt like crazy but it was already hurting. Kind of like ripping a band aid off a cut. Do it quickly, wipe your eyes(because they will water)and then use listerine or any other disinfecting mouth rinse.

I think sometimes if you eat foods that are too spicy or are
physically extremely hot this can happen...SS
