Guinea pig pregnancy. What to do?

January 6, 2007 6:56am CST
Female guinea pig about to pop. What do I have to do with her? She is in a clean cage alone with food, water etc. and a little house.

I am so tired right now that there is no way I could write the 10 page response you need! But if you go to www.guinealynx.info there is a TON of information pregnancy that should help you. Let me know if you have specific questions after reading that info and I'll try to help. I've fostered several pregnant guinea pigs. Best of luck! Did you get her pregnant or accidently put her in with a male? Make sure to separate her if she's still in with the male. And after she has the babies, remember that male babies must be separated out at 3 weeks of age.

Hi there - She actually had the piglets the next day. They are so cute and she had three - all different colours. They are very healthy and I am glad you told me to separate them out at 3 weeks of age as I would not have realised.

How fun. Can you post some pictures? I would like to see them. Best of luck with the little cuties.

When is it okay to put the mother in with her old flames? Don't want to keep them separated for ever.

ok so first good job on not keepingthe male in the cage second when she does have the babies or is about to don´t get nervous(well not too much)b/c she will feel that.also if its her first litter you wouldn´t want to make her feel inadequate as a parent already, anyway she´ll pull out her hair so that they can be warm when they are born.and since you have food and water in there already i hope you have enough because when the babies are bornyou can´t go anywhere near the tank as often as you usually do b/c if she feels that babies are threatened she will eat those babies and be very depressed.she is in a clen cage alone, with food, water, and a little house to hide in you did real good. oh yeah and by the way when the babies are about 6wks they shold be weaned off their mothers milk. good luck, donisha

It is nice to see others help out people in need. :) My guinea pig was pregnant too (without ma knowing it) and one day, we had 2 extra piggies just running around. Thereis absolutely no problems once they get born becuse they start running, and eating all by themselves! Clever little things.
