Can you tell us what the purpose for using the laptop? If you use it on trip, buy laptop that is light in weight and with wifi technology. If you use it on office, cheaper one will be fine If you use it for gaming, check the CPU and DIsplay Card model, dual core is popular and Geforce 7300 is usually used on gaming laptop, also, u need about 1GB of memeory, cuz I am not living in India, I can't help much but these advices

I am a research student and I have to manage a lot of data that include some high resolution microphotographs and similiar stuffs. So I need a laptop which give me a better view of pictures. And what is the difference between Core Duo and Core 2 Duo? Which is good? Surely I need one with wireless connectivity and the one with reasonable battery back up. Can the memory of the laptop say 256MB can be upgraded as we do for the desktops?

Ahhh, if those photograph are in 3D,using better display card that usually use in gaming is better. But if they are 2D, Intel GMA is enough I guess. The different between Core Duo and Core 2 Duo are that... Core Duo has 2MB L2 Cache while Core 2 Duo have 4MB(2MB also availiable) L2 Cache. Core 2 Duo support more stuff on entertainment and video, eg. SSE . Also , Core2Duo support 64Bit Operating System. I guess CoreDuo is already enough for you since you are not going to use 3dsmax and some 3d drawing software. Yes, we can buy laptop memory for upgrade. but please remember, don't buy desktop ram because the memory slot between Desktop computer and Laptop computer are completely different. Nowadays, laptop usually have 2-4 slots since they support dual-channel

Thank you very much for spending time to help me out, I have seen a laptop HP Pavilion dv5200tx with my friend. It is CoreDuo and has 1 GB RAM, 100 GB Harddisk, 15.4 Widescreen etc. And it costs around Rs. 65,000/- (1$ = Rs 48). Is it worth for the price? Waiting for your advice.

I think you go for a dell laptop. It should have a core 2 duo and it should be Windows Vista Compatible for Windows Vista Express Upgrade. Try at least a ram of 512 MB and it should have a DVD Disk Player. If you want a TV Tuner, Go in for Microsoft Windows XP Media Center edition. You will still get a number of choices but take the cheapest from those.
