Why do we celebrate the new year??

i think its just an excuse to party...as new year has no other cultural meaning to it....instead of spending hundreds of dollars on partying adn drinking we shld be doing community service.

well Alot of people do the drinking thing and for alot of drunks it is a reason for them to drink. but really we celebrate the new year because we are getting rid of the old one and starting a new one and starting it out fresh so hopeful we make the new year better than the last one I hope I helped a little.
