Theories on the TV show "Lost"

Anybody have any ideas as to what is really happening on the island...are they trapped in Purgatory...is it some kind of scientific experiment? I have watched from day 1 and still have no clear idea on what it could be...lets hear your ideas, no matter how weird or wonderful

The Others seem to have some contact to the exterior and maybe they are the way off the island. I don't know why they are still on the island. (so they must have some plans)
