The most pathetic sight I have seen.

There I stood in my brother's hospital room wondering why. Yes, I smoked when I was a teen ager, but little if anything was known 35 years ago about the relationship between smoking and cancer. Today, with the irrefutable evidence that smoking causes cancer, I am amazed at who is smoking. For example, how can a Dr. allow himself to smoke? And then the nurses are right there too. But today, the point was driven home to me very powerfully. A few days ago, my youngest brother went into surgery for lung cancer. When the Dr. came back out after about 30 minutes, you just knew the news would not be good. They found the cancer had metastasized to the aorta from the heart. They could do nothing but close him back up. This afternoon he is awake, but confined to his bed and receiving 80% oxygen. I saw he was somewhat agitated and trying to get out of bed. I went over to his bed and heard him begging people to help him sneak outside the hospital so he could have a cigarette. That is absolutely the most pathetic sight I have ever seen. I hope this helps someone else's "little brother" to wake up before it is too late for them.
