If so, how did you like it? A Turkish friend of mine brought me some not long ago, and I loved it!! I went to http://www.turkishtaste.com and ordered an entire case of the stuff for Christmas. Well I gave away some of it for Christmas, and ate most of the rest of it myself. LOL I love that stuff!!! For those who have had it and liked it, what's your favourite flavour? I love the rose flavoured Turkish Delight.

Yes, I like Turkish Delight a lot! They have always been importing a lot to Russia, so we are kinda familiar with it... And then I spent 2 months in Istanbul a couple of years before and fell in love with their Halva (can be made of different tyoes of nuts and seeds) - I advise you to try it too

Yah, definitely try it. Who knows, you might just forget about chocolate alltogether, when you've finally tried Turkish delight! ;-) I love the stuff. It's very unique in taste and texture. You've never had anything like it, and there's nothing else like it.

Oh no, i hate the stuff. My boyfriend brought me back some from Turkey and nobody in the house would eat it. It's horrible! I don't like the texture or the taste but i'm really not exactly sure why!

I sure wish I was there. Everyone in my family LOVES it!! If no one in my family liked it, I'd have it all to myself, and that would be a dream come true for me, because I love it so much. When was your boyfriend in Turkey? Was he born there? Does he have family there?

I adore Turkish delight. Not only the stuff sold in confectioners stores made by Fry's. The real Turkish lipsmackingsmellslikeheaven stuff. Ooooohhh it's wonderfull. BUT. I have recently stopped smoking and all I want to do is EAT!!!! So I have to control that as well, which means no fattening sweeties. :(

The North American stuff wasn't bad until I tasted the REAL Turkish stuff, and now I can't eat the North American stuff.... but I keep the real Turkish stuff well sticked in my home. You're right about the "smells like heaven part" (well your entire description was accurate!!). I open a box of Turkish Delight, and my entire place smells good!!!

That is nice of you to give some of it away as I am sure the people who got it appreciated it very much. There are even various flavors? Thank you for sharing.

Thank you for your comment, and thank you for bookmarking turkishtaste.com. I have it listed under "websites I like to visit." The boxes I ordered were BIG, and not very expensive, so it wasn't any trouble to share them. As you can see from the website Turkish Delight comes in many flavours, and is not the only kind of Turkish food available. They carry all kinds of wonderful stuff. Thanks again for your comment.

Marie, thanks for your response!! I still have to catch up on the others, but I had to search for yours, when this appeared at the top of my list, since you have a boyfriend from Turkey. You can NEVER eat too much Turkish delight! LOL Maybe give it a break, and try it again. I love that stuff!!! That reminds me, I'm down to my last box, and need to order some more.

ooh i love this stuff :) my mom has made it since i was a kid (she's a major dessert-cooking mom!)...and has nothing to do with the fact that my dad has turkish ancestors. just coincidence i guess. i have never tried rose flavor but am curious. my mom's version usually has apple sauce in the recipe, though you can't really tell. it just adds to the overall sweetness. i prefer orange, lemon or any sort of citrus flavors. though cherry is always nice too!

Thank you for your comment! If you go to turkishtaste.com you can order an entire box of rose flavour, or a mixed box with lemon, rose and mint, or the stuff with nuts on it. Cool that your mother makes it!! I wish I was there right now. ;-)+++

Here's an easy recipe to make your own! Makes 80 pieces. Ingredients 4 cups sugar 4 1/2 cups water 2 teaspoons lemon juice 1 1/4 cups cornstarch 1 teaspoon cream of tartar 1 1/2 tablespoons rosewater (Rosewater can be found at specialty food stores.) red food coloring (optional) 1 cup confectioners sugar Step 1: Oil a 9-inch square pan. Line with plastic wrap and oil the plastic wrap. Step 2: In a heavy saucepan over medium heat, combine the sugar, 1 1/2 cups of the water, and the lemon juice. Stir until the sugar dissolves and the mixture boils. When the sugar syrup boils, coat the inside of the saucepan with a brush dipped in water to prevent sugar crystals from forming. Reduce the heat and simmer gently, without stirring, until the mixture reaches the soft-ball stage (240°F on a candy thermometer). Remove the pan from the heat. Step 3: In a second large heavy saucepan over medium heat, stir together 1 cup cornstarch and the cream of tartar. Gradually stir in the remaining 3 cups of water until no lumps remain. Stir constantly, until the mixture boils and is a thick, gluey paste. Step 4: Slowly pour the hot sugar, water, and lemon juice syrup into the cornstarch mixture, stirring constantly. Reduce the heat and simmer, stirring often to prevent sticking, for about 1 hour, or until the mixture has become a pale golden color. Step 5: Stir in the rosewater and tint as desired with food coloring. Pour the mixture into the prepared pan and spread evenly. Cool to room temperature and let stand, uncovered, overnight to set. Step 6: Sift the confectioners sugar and the remaining 1/4 cup cornstarch onto a large cutting board. Turn the Turkish delight out and cut into 1-inch squares with an oiled knife. Roll pieces in the sugar mixture to coat well. Store in an airtight container with sheets of waxed paper, dusted with the sugar mixture, separating every layer.

It's a really delicious kind chewy candy. The texture is almost the same as a really fresh gumdrop, but the quality is much better. It's sold in cubes that are coated in powdered sugar, to keep them from sticking together. It's available in various flavours such as rose, lemon, mint, and with nuts. Go to http://www.turkishtaste.com and you can learn all about it. Thanks for your comment.

My partner and I love the stuff and can't get enough of it, unfortunately you only seem to be able to get it at christmas, one would think they don't make it at any other time of the year. Last christmas we went into a Turkish restaurant, run by a man from Turkey and my partner asked if he knew where he could get some real Turkish Delight and the man gave him a bag full out of his own private stock, he said he only gets the cheap stuff for the customers, apparently most of his customers wouldn't even know the difference, but we sure did, it is wonderful and none of that stuff covered in chocolate that are put out on the shelves at christmas. So enjoy your case full of Turkish Delight.
