theres a debate in chihuahua breeders about the merle chihuahuas that started showing up with in the 1980's .The color patern was unknown before then and most feel it was brought in by mixing in another breed .The main issue is the merle gene is respouncible for alot of health issues deathness blindness having one small and usless eye. Double merles is the breeding of two merles togather and is a higher risk of these issues the top producer in shelties that is merle has so small eyes they can hardly be seen and is of course blind it is a double merle .

That is sad about what happens with the breeding of Merles the one eye smaller and stuff... by the way I noticed you mad an error in your link here is the right link.

As far as breeding Merles.. I am not against but I do not support it either.
