No I don't own a horse but a funny story is probably the reason why.
Horse seem to just "know" that I am nervous and they don't pay attention to my commands.
We babysat a horse one year and I went to go for a ride on it. The thing took off through the field next to our house, jumped a ditch and kept going until she got to a house up the road where they had horses in their backyard. About that time, a dog came out and started barking at her heels (hoofs) and I figured I'd better jump off rather than get thrown off.
A little while after that, I figured I should try to ride her again or I might never get back on a horse. This time, she took off across the field and headed toward the river. I jumped off again.
But, I do think horses are very beautiful animals.

Horses fear even the slightest things sometimes. Mine hates the wind. On windy days...no way do I ride. I also have to be very careful working around him. He is very tense. Apparently that horse had a scare and took you with him. Horses also hate dogs nipping at their heels so that is understandable. You did good by getting back on, unfortunately the horse was already tramatized. You did the right thing by getting off. Yes, they are beautiful animals and owning one has been a lifelong dream come true.
