I never did use them but I don't think they are cheating, if they are available then why not use them. To me these notes help break down what your reading to give you a clearer understanding of them.

To me it's fine. Why bother with the book when you can read the spark notes?

I don't think I ever used them. They should only be used as a supplement after reading the primary material.

thats interesting... do you consider it cheating if that is the only thing that you read?

I'm not sure. You probably miss some nuances in the story by using such things, and perhaps it's not fair to others who have to figure out the themes alone. I'd ask the teacher whether it's allowed.

Sparks notes, cliff notes, monkey notes yes can be helpful. You are using resources but, I would call it cheating because, you didn't take the time to resource it for yourselve.

I've heard arguments for and against. For, they help overly stressed students. Against, they promote laziness an prevent growth of neural synapses(not even kidding.)I think they can be helpful but I also think they can be a hindrance. Another helpful one is pinkmoney.com

i agree with you on both points... if used to ofter then you do miss a lot, but on a lot of high school books, you arent missing much lol

As long as your notes are used as a supplement to your reading/regular studies, I don't see any problem with it whatsoever. I wouldn't classify that as cheating. If you didn't read anything BUT the cliff's notes, then that's cheating - you aren't going to walk away with the full effect and undersdtanding of the project, either.
