Has anyone here lived in A city when it held the Olympic Games? What was it like and how did the normal residents feel about the games? Was there much disruption, was it enjoyable or did it cause problems?

not strictly so but in the early 90's manchester was a contender(?) for 2000 olympics. it was all agreat buzz and i remember people talking about it all the time and just a general good vibe going about like "yeh! we're mancunian!" one that fateful evening when the winner was announced hundreds of thousands gathered or watched on tv with baited breath. with those immortal words "and the winner is... SYDNEY!" the collective exhaling of thousands could be heard followed by "awwww...sh!te!"

I had a girlfriend living in Manchester at that time, and we broke up a few weeks before the announcment was made and she was quite excited about the bid. I'm ashamed to say I smirked when Sydney was announce, and it made me feel a very tiny bit better. Sorry.
