yes u can say that its a type of gamble. on my very first investment i lost my 800 rs(around sixth months ago). but after earned 2000 with my 10000 investment in last 2 months. if u frm india then join any share broker company like geojit, 5-paisa, sharekhan. if u want to investing online then i'll suggest u geojit bcz of their high speed software. icici have most popular demat service but in speed it sucks. u r a beginner so first plz concern ny share broker before investing
