Doctor is a person who serves people in all possible ways. The previous posts have lucidly explained it. Today they are charging for their services and therefore have become businessmen. The blame for the decrease in respect and the suspicion of doctors is squarely on Doctors. But the market has forced it. Most of the parents in the last few decades have made their children doctors and invested in them because they expected good returns from them. People want to become IAS officers not because they want to serve but of the earning potential.
The society gets what it deserves.

Have to disagree with you on this one. A Doctor is a medical practitioner only in my country and certainly not any of the other things. We are ultimately responsible for our own life although of course if we are sick then we should see the Doctor. However he cannot tell us what to do, but rather has to present the options to us and let us decide for ourself.

Doctor is next to GOD but a very few try to become the good. They save life but for money only.
