African American Genealogy...so hard to trace history

I have been researching my family for over 10 years. It has been a very interesting journey. I have found a lot of information but there is a lot more to find. I have ran into many brick walls, but I am in hopes that one day I will break these walls. African American genealogy is a hard to research because of the paper trail. Anyone else having problems with their research?
