Is This Crazy Weather Going to Zap My Bulbs?

Here it is, January, and it is so unseasonably warm! I noticed yesterday while walking through the yard that my bulbs are starting to come up! The irises, the mountain bells, and my daffodils have gone so far as to start budding!
When we finally do get a freeze, it it going to zap my bulbs? If it doesn't kill them, will they ever be the same? How can I prevent losing all my bulbs!

Oh man... I'm so glad I got out of a place that doesn't have any seasons. 80 degree weather on Christmas Day is just NOT acceptable (when you're living in the Northern Hemisphere)! I was going to guess you were in Southern California, but after looking at your profile, I see you're in North Carolina. Sorry, I don't have any information for you on your gardening. I just wanted to see where you were from and tell you that I know how you feel with the warm weather when it's supposed to be cold! Or maybe it's just me who wants it to be cold when it's supposed to be cold...

Thanks to all who responded! We had a quick freeze in the last week and then another more 60+ degree days. Wierd. It's mainly my new tulip bulbs that I'm worried about, but they haven't come up. Mainly the irises, daffodils and every other early spring bulb we have. I mulched but haven't been able to dig up any. I just hope I'm lucky this year. Thanks again!

I wouldn't worry about the irises. They will just lose their leaves if it gets colder or it snows.
You may lose the daffodil flowers but probably not. I wouldn't worry about the bulbs. They should come back.

You might, just possibly, get lucky, but after the bulbs have committed to flowering, they've rolled the dice. If you can lift them, and get them out of harm's way, do it.
If you've got a good stock of reliable bulbs, like, generations of them which have flowered regularly, at least try and save a few of each kind. Good luck.

Yeah, it's happening all over the country, and to every kind of plant you can think of. Things are coming up because they think its' spring, and freezing will kill them. There are cherry trees in bloom in NY, and plants coming up all over. If we are getting a brief freeze, you can mulch your plants, but if it freezes and stays that way, which is still most likely, the bulbs will die. Generally, they are just wiped out for this yr and come back next year.
