I have a mail German Shepherd pup that is about 10 months old. He has a Dr Jeckyll and Mr Hyde personality. My husband works out of town and is gone quite often. The dog behaves when he is home and when he leaves he starts to misbehave. He will listen to me but will not respond at all to the kids. He barks and jumps but is quiet and docile when my husband is home. Does anyone have any ideas for me to take control of the situation? I know I need to do it so he will learn his place in the "pack" is under me and the kids. TIA

I think he needs your control. Punish him for the wrong acts he's doing. Like can shut him in a room for an hour or two. Keep in mind he needs to be a bit scared of you.

Thanks- He does get punished when he acts - he goes in his crate - I need to come up with a way to make him scared of me. I'm not big enough to go toe to toe w/ him and don't want to. When he gets going he can pull me all over. I also need so ideas for how to get him to see the children not as equals so he quits when the fall down he doesn't jump all over them. Thanks again for your response!

I have the same kind of problem with my German Shepherd too. My kids are deathly afraid of him. We train him every day and he still has destroyed my house and a good portion of my things. We cannot even watch t.v. in the same room with the dog because he constantly jumps all over us. So when we get some money we are going to get him fixed and hope that, that will help him calm down a bit. good luck with your dog also, I feel for you.
