I think we should just get rid of the irresponsible owners instead.
I have a pitbull, 2 rotties and a caucasian ovcharka, a greyhound and an irishwolf hound
Granted I am on a farm, but they do not attack any livestock, they don't rip up peole comming into the farmyard(they sure bark up a storm thougn) and they don't kill my cats and they do not pick on eachother.
The pitbull was a rescue dog and he had issues when he first came here. He needed a lot of handling and retraining and a bunch of love. I trust him with my life.
Instead of banning them, prospective owners of such a breed should be made to produce a certificate for successfullly completing a dog obedience course.

There is no breed of dog known as "pit bull." A "pit bull" is a descriptive word of a dog that fights in a pit.
I feel that poor ownership is a terrible thing. Breeds get bad raps just because an owner is stupid enough to not take care of their animal properly, or to train it to be aggressive. Dogs by nature are not aggressive. I think it is very silly. I want to own a doberman pinscher one day because they are a beautiful breed. Hopefully they won't be banned by then...

Oops! I wanted to add into there that the breed commonly refered to as a "pit bull" is actually called a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. :)

I don't think that all pits are bad. it is up to the owner how the pit is trained. some people use them to fight. or feed the hot foods to make them mean. that's why some dogs turn on their owners. to me a dog is the friend not the enemy. Treat the dog the way you want to be treated. ! 1 love out.

I agree the dogs are not to blame it is the owners. A dogs nature is wanting to please its owner so if it is told to fight it will.

I think it's a terrible idea!! The dog is not the problem, the people who train the dog to be dangerous are the problem. Let's put a ban on dangerous owners!!!

I don't think a dog breed should be banned at all. I think that dogs will respond to how they are treated. We have two akitas and it is impossible to rent anything here because they are on an attack breed list. We had to purchase because of it. our two akitas are very kind dogs and great with children. I think if you treat a dog right and you take care of it there won't be any problems. I think some training is important and I also think all dog owners should take precautions to make sure their dogs don't harm other or themselves but I really think that the majority of dog attacks are due to the irresponsibility of their caregivers. I have a dashound who thinks he is an akita. He is my baby and very protective of the family he barks at everyone while the akitas just stay silent. When people come over I really try to hold him to prevent him from nipping someone I don't think he would but just as a precaution. I also provide a fence to ensure both my dogs safety and the safety of others. There was a boy who lived down the street that we caught hanging on the fence throwing rocks at our akitas when they went out to do their business. I think had the boy continued or done something worse there is a potential he could have been bit. But as far as my pups ever hurting someone without being hurt themselves I really don't think it would happen.

No bad dogs only bad owners, unfortunately, some men who have a small P*n*s and smaller IQs and probably no experience with handling dogs and want them to be aggressive because it makes them feel macho.
In actual fact statistically dogs of the 'Pit Bull' kind do not cause most deaths for the number of them, that goes I believe to one of the varieties of Husky
all the best urban

I think - Punish the deed, not the breed.
With banning the "dangerous" dogs people will want more to have a "dangerous " dog.
Why they dont ban the Sanbernar?
Yesterday one Sambernar bite a litle child here in Bulgaria!
Only 5 % from the owners of pitbulls teach them for fight!

The ban is completely ridiculous and will not last. The few places that have banned pit bulls are facing riots and lawsuits. BLAME THE OWNERS NOT THE PETS. I personally have an awesome pit named Max and he couldn't hurt a fly. Its all about the training, not the breed.

I have a 2 yr old pitbull and she hates other dogs. I dont believe in the ban. My dog loves other people but she can strongly detect fear. If you have the littlest bit of fear going up to her than she will get aggresive. She is a wonderful dog and has been spoiled her entire life and loved.
